March 2017 Wine Australia released an expression of interest to provide novel solutions to measure Wine Grape production in Australia and to replace the current ABS survey method. Dr Sebastien Wong proposed a method using machine learning and satellite imagery to automatically generate crop maps. April 2018 Consilium Technology successfully demonstrated the concept of automated mapping vineyards and the results were presented at the Locate 2018 conference and Treasury Wine Estates Magill Estate. October 2018 GAIA launches a private Beta of crop condition monitoring, delivering high resolution NDVI imagery to selected vineyards. The beta trial was fully-subscribed with clients including DeBortoli Family Wines, Treasury Wine Estate and Brown Family Wine Group. May 2019 completion of the first national scan of vineyards, this is the world’s first continental mapping of a single crop at 0.5m resolution. July 2019 GAIA launches an open Alpha of the GAIA web-app to the Australian Wine Industry. January 2020 the second national scan of vineyards is completed. February 2020 GAIA Innovations Pty Ltd announced with Andy Clarke as CEO. March 2020 Alpha complete and GAIA 1.0 released.
